Data security is an important element of CRM deployments that is often overlooked. However, it is important to discuss this as it offers numerous benefits to the client such as accelerated user adoption and improved business process design. Stay focused as you develop your CRM implementation plan since it is easy to get confused when configuring data security.

Using a system such as Microsoft Dynamics CRM, organizations can configure security levels so users only see what they interact with. This offers improved navigation and also reduces confusion for the end user. It’s also crucial to perform testing and re-testing of security levels to make sure the levels are set properly.

Security settings do not need to be complex to be effective. We have found that with many of our clients, providing only the security that is required can help with a quicker implementation and also assists with testing and verifying security levels across the system.

Dynamics CRM has three main levels of security: role-based, record-based and field level. Permissions can be given out to users based on their security role and what team(s) that person is a member of. Dynamics CRM does come with some security reports built in and more are available through SSRS custom reports.
