One of the greatest features for Microsoft Dynamics CRM is the Customer Portal.  The Customer Portal allows organizations to flow data to and from CRM and an externally-facing website.  It’s a great way for organizations of all types to share and gather information with their constituents.  The Customer Portal is a free packaged solution available through the CRM Marketplace.

One of the more popular and useful features of the Customer Portal is the ability to set up an Events Calendar.  Organizations can create new events in the “Campaigns” section under marketing, and then publish the details to the portal.  People that come to the site can register for the event and have the registration data flow back to CRM.   They can even create an .ics file to add to their local calendar.  On the back end, CRM users will instantly see who is registered for the event.  As always, work flows can be created to automate event confirmation, instructions and reminders.  It’s a very handy tool for organizations that offer training or educational events.  See more in this video from Microsoft.

  1. The portal seems to have a good features in regard to events, as a whole. Using it as a medium for CRM is a good way to ensure regular contact and constant updates, to and from them.
