ClickDimensions users may have noticed a pop up warning over the past few days:
This ominous message is a warning that has effects for not just ClickDimensions, but any applications that integrate with Dynamics 365 using a combination user id and password. Clicking the link takes you to a of the dialog box. Microsoft is starting to phase out the ability of add on applications to use this traditional authentication method in favor of either using Service Principal Authentication or an Application User. We have been migrating our ClickDimensions users to Application Users in order to avoid any service interruption.
Changing to an Application User will also help deal with that will be activated very soon.
Luckily this is not a difficult change to make. You will need to work with a Global Administrator of your Azure Active DIrectory.

Two caveats to the article –
- ensure that you copy the secret value to notepad or OneNote before saving as you only have one chance to copy the secret. Also I set the expiration to maximum of 2 years and put a reminder in my calndar to update the secret 24 months from now!
- The article it does not mention what needs to happen after you change the ClickDimensions service credentials. Once you change the service credentials, you should also update the three ClickDimensions workflows so that they are now owned by the new service user. Neglecting to do this may result in emails not delivered.
