Microsoft Dynamics 365 is a flexible and extensible platform used by companies large and small all across the globe. Organizations use the platform to drive productivity and manage customers, vendors, and assets. (For more insight into Dynamics, check out this post.) If you are looking at Dynamics 365 CRM today, one of the questions you'll want to answer is what type of user license to deploy. For a sales team, there are two primary license levels available; Microsoft Dynamics 365 Sales Enterprise and Sales Professional. There is a third popular license, Sales Premium, which is Sales Enterprise with the addition of customizable intelligence tools. In this post however, we'll outline the differences between the Enterprise and Professional tiers only.
Before we dive into some of the differences, we should note that the license tiers can be mix and match at the tenant level, but not at the app module level. So as an organization you can deploy both licenses, but this would require at least two sales apps.
Another note is everything available for Sales Professional is available for Sales Enterprise. The difference between the two are the additional Enterprise features, not a difference in kind. Sales Professional comes in at $65 per user, while Sales Enterprise is priced at $95 per user.
What's included in both Sales Professional and Sales Enterprise?
Both tiers include reporting, dashboards, and export capabilities to PowerBI (if PowerBI is licensed). They offer Microsoft integration to the standard Office suite as well (Outlook/Exchange, Excel, Teams, OneNote, and OneDrive/SharePoint). The most common base sales functionality is unlocked for your sales reps:
