Dynamics CRM and Office 365 – Fiji, Maui, How Will I Choose?

Microsoft announced Office 365 recently, and I have to tell you, I haven’t been this excited about a release in YEARS.  Like many people today, I work remotely pretty often and although it’s a nice perk, sometimes I have longed for just a little more connectedness.  (Make it easy, already, would you?)   And now, with CRM online and Office 365, I’m going to have it.  And because it's "in the cloud", I don't have to worry about where it's installed or how it's configured, and I'll have 24/7 support so if something goes a little hinky, I’m taken care of, and not waiting on my already overworked IT guy.

Office 365 is a cloud version (you don’t have to install it, house it, or maintain it) of the best of Microsoft’ss communication and collaboration products, married with the latest version of the desktop suite.  We’re going to have:

• Microsoft Office --The world’s leading productivity tool on the desktop, now seamlessly connected and delivered with cloud services – for the best productivity experience across the PC, Phone, and Browser.
• Exchange Online-- e-mail, calendar, and contacts with the most current antivirus and anti-spam solutions.  Includes the ability to get e-mail on virtually any mobile phone and options for voice mail, unified messaging and archiving.
• SharePoint Online-- service for creating sites to connect colleagues, partners, and customers.  Includes enterprise social networking and customization options.
• Lync Online-- instant messaging, presence, and online meeting experiences with screen sharing and voice and video conferencing.

Add CRM Online to that, and I’m never going to have to get out of my PJ's again. (CRM Online will be included with Office 365 in 2011).

But seriously, being in the industry, I’m rather conservative about upgrading to the latest and greatest version .  Call me a skeptic, but I've got a “wait for the first service pack” mentality most of the time.  I may not be able to hold myself back with Office 365….
